Pest of the Month: Spiders

Few pests induce as much panic as spiders. It has been said that as many as 50% of women have arachnophobia, an intense fear of spiders; although, of the 40,000 different species of spiders, most are harmless to humans.

Spiders are most likely to enter homes through small openings around windows and doors. They will also occasionally make it indoors by being carried inside on items previously stored outside. Homeowners can be proactive in preventing these bothersome pests by practicing the following:

  • Seal cracks and openings around windows, doors, and in basements
  • Keep the porch/patio lights off when possible
  • If you have a wood pile, store it several feet away from your home

Spiders are classified as arachnids, not insects. They are categorized as such because they have 8 legs and do not have antennas. At Anti-Pest, we offer pest control for a variety of arachnids, including spiders, ticks, and scorpions.
